Spectator safety will be further enhanced on the back straight viewing area with the existing wire strand fence to be replaced with chainmesh. This will provide more peace of mind for spectators with small children who could otherwise get under or through the fence. The mesh and posts are ready to be erected. The old fence has been removed (see picture below). We need to dig the post holes, cement the posts in, and put the chainwire up.
Further safety initiatives planned include the extension of the chainwire on the catchfence over the creek back towards turn one, and fencing around the pedestrian bridge. This will need to be complete before the season commences.
The covered area near the canteen has been fenced off with plans for demolition. Discussions with council in this matter are ongoing. Once we get the go ahead, this should happen relatively quickly. Track curator Bruce Irvine has been busy with the grader during the off season. After ripping the track and leaving it open for some weeks, Bruce has now started the process of getting it into shape ready for racing. We have a bigger grader onsite for final trim work. Looking good! There is always something to do. It doesn't just happen, we need your assistance. Remember, it is your track. We have had a number of compulsory working bees recently. The edict is no work - no race. So if you haven't been able to get to the track and give a hand, time is running out to do so...
Track improvements. Catchfence Project: Stage One- Our grant
as part of the NASR backed QBE Risk Management Scheme has been put to
good use with installation of chainwire to the catchfence along the back
straight and pit hill viewing areas now completed. Catchfence Project: Stage Two - this involves increasing the height of the fence and installing another two strands of wire rope above the existing framework. This will require brace posts that will supplement the existing catchfence and provide another 1.5 metres in height bringing the overall structure to almost 5m above the race surface. While this also allows us to provide racing for higher spec divisions, that is not the primary reason for the work. After seeing how high some cars flew in recent times - remember Matt Astrella's altitude test in turn one, the committee must consider steps to limit the risk where possible. Nearly 80 pipes will be used to complete the task and the plan is to have it completed before the 2009-10 season.

See Street Stockers and 1600's All input is most welcome. Members racing at other tracks are requested out of courtesy to notify our club of their intentions. There is no problem with competing elsewhere, but should you be involved in an incident, the club can at least be aware of your attendance. Thanks.
